Ðǿմ«Ã½ (Ðǿմ«Ã½) senior Michelle Coronado recently graduated with a double major in business management and digital marketing, all while being a constant presence on campus and serving in multiple roles promoting belonging and involvement.

Coronado, a native of Texas, called the tight-knit community tucked into the South Side of Chicago home for four years. Coronado was drawn to Ðǿմ«Ã½'s business program and the endless job opportunities within the business profession. Digital marketing allowed her creative side to shine.

"When I first started college, I wasn't exactly sure which career I wanted, but I knew I wanted the freedom to explore different industries and opportunities. That's why I chose business management. It's a degree that can take you almost anywhere. Throughout college, I gained experience in sports, higher education, event management, and healthcare, which really showed me how many different interests I have. Digital marketing felt like a natural fit. I've always been interested in the digital world, social media, and creating content. It was something that came naturally to me, and I knew it was a skill that would be valuable no matter what industry I ended up in," Coronado said.

When looking at schools more than 1,000 miles from home, Coronado found that Ðǿմ«Ã½'s small class sizes stood out. Best learning one-on-one, the intimate classroom structure allowed Coronado to really retain what she was learning.

"I chose Ðǿմ«Ã½ because I wanted a place where I could really focus on academics and build relationships with my professors. One of the biggest things I looked at was class size, because I knew that would impact my learning experience. I learn best in smaller classes where professors actually know who you are, and that's exactly what I found at Ðǿմ«Ã½. Having those close connections made it easier to ask questions, seek advice, and grow academically," Coronado said.

Coronado's resume is replete with impressive accomplishments after graduating from Saint Xavier. Over the last four years, she has held five positions across the University, including social media assistant in the Office of University Relations, resident assistant, Student Activities Board (SAB) member, president of Women Entering Business (WEB), and vice president of Unidos.

"The [social media position with University Relations] pushed me out of my comfort zone. I had to approach students, create content, and represent the University. Because I became so involved on campus, I was later selected as a resident assistant and Student Activities Board member. Through those leadership roles, I gained professionalism, confidence, and a better understanding of who I was. I learned that I genuinely love creating memorable experiences for others and helping people feel connected," Coronado said.

Her experiences at Ðǿմ«Ã½ later helped her land a summer internship at Memorial Hermann Health System as a talent acquisition marketing intern in Houston.

"That experience taught me that I could be myself in a professional setting. I didn't have to be quiet or reserved to be taken seriously. I could be outgoing, creative, and excited about my work. I brought many of the skills I developed at Ðǿմ«Ã½ into that internship, from collaborating with different departments to bringing fresh ideas to projects and building relationships with people across the organization," Coronado said.

Through all the hard work, Coronado was determined to maintain excellent grades and a high GPA. Walking the stage and getting her diploma was one of her proudest moments.

"One of my biggest accomplishments was successfully balancing academics while holding multiple student leadership positions, working on campus, completing internships, and staying involved in organizations. Throughout my four years, I challenged myself to take advantage of every opportunity available to me while continuing to grow academically and professionally. Graduating with two business degrees while maintaining that level of involvement is something I'm incredibly proud of," Coronado said.

As for Coronado's post-grad plans, she's taking a much-needed break to spend time with family after being away for four long years.

"Ðǿմ«Ã½ prepared me for my future career by helping me become confident in who I am and what I bring to the table. Being far from home for four years wasn't always easy, but Ðǿմ«Ã½ gave me a village. The people around me pushed me to take chances, go after opportunities, and believe in myself even when I wasn't sure I could. Because of them, I learned how to advocate for myself, build meaningful relationships, and walk into new situations with confidence," Coronado said.
